The Crucible Enrichment Project Choices

Be sure you have downloaded and saved the document "The Crucible Enrichment Projects."

You must choose to complete one project from each category (3 projects total): 
  1. Creation/Composition (may be written as a paper or in a more creative format)
  2. Research (must be a written paper, 300 word minimum)
  3. Reaction (may be a written paper, 300 word minimum, or another format)
Due date for projects: Friday, December 13. Rubric available on class fusionpage.

For this blog entry, state the following for each of the 3 projects:
  • The category name
  • The number of the project you will complete
  • A brief explanation of what you plan to do including your format

The Crucible Act Four

Respond to the following prompt in a minimum of 200 words. You must also reply to at least two classmates' posts. All posts and replies should be thoughtful, well-supported, and clearly written in complete sentences. Proofread before submitting. Posts and replies due by December 6.


Use evidence from the play to show how Arthur Miller conveys one of the following themes:

1.         Fear and suspicion are infectious and can produce a mass hysteria that destroys public order and rationality.

2.         It is more noble to die with integrity than to live with compromised principles that harm others.


3.         The ideas of witchcraft and “the devil’s work” in The Crucible are extended metaphors for Communism. (You may need to do a little background research for this one – check out the notes in the textbook.)

The Crucible Act Three

Respond to the following prompt in a minimum of 200 words. You must also reply to at least two classmates' posts. All posts and replies should be thoughtful, well-supported, and clearly written in complete sentences. Proofread before submitting. Posts and replies due by November 22.


Imagine that Elizabeth Proctor had told Danforth the truth. In what way might the outcome of the trials been different? Discuss also who bears the most guilt for the fate of those hanged in the Salem witch trials – the girls who accused the innocent people or the judges who sentenced them to death? Provide examples from the play to support your response.

There is a great deal of irony in this act. Discuss two ironic situations or remarks that occur. Provide details about the character(s) and situation to support your examples.

What evidence suggests that sharp divisions exist among the people of Salem Village? Discuss at least two characters who are affected by the discord. You may discuss characters who cause conflict or those who are accused or resented by others and why.

In a complete sentence(s), state the name of the political figure you will research. Also, state the subject about which this figure showed courage. 

For example, John F. Kennedy showed courage during the Cuban Missile Crisis.

Submit your statement to this blog by Wednesday, October 2.

All students must choose a different politician to research. First-come, first-served. Read through all of the topic statements. If your person is already posted to the blog, you must choose someone else! 

Also, be sure to adhere to the requirements concerning which politicians are eligible for research.

Profiles in Courage, Chapter I

Choose one of the following prompts and respond in a 6-8 sentence paragraph.You should read all posts made by your classmates and must reply to at least two of your classmate's posts. Replies should be thoughtful, relevant, and at least three sentences. One of your replies must be to a topic that is different from the one about which you wrote. You might want to type your post as a Word document first and then copy and paste it to the blog. Proofread all posts before submitting!

1. Some people believe that " ... politicians must be concerned only with winning votes, not statesmanship or courage" (p. 2). Discuss how this statement is either true or false based on an example from recent history or news. What is your opinion?

2. Kennedy discusses three pressures faced by political leaders which make it difficult to follow a path of courage (pp. 4-11). Choose one of these pressures and explain it. Explain also why this pressure makes it difficult to act with political courage.

3. "Always do what is right, regardless of whether it is popular" (p. 11). Explain why this is easier said than done. Provide a specific example from history, the news, or from your own life.

What might happen if a soldier had his girlfriend flown in to Vietnam during the war?

Write a story considering these questions: Could a soldier get his girlfriend flown in to Vietnam? How would she get there? What might happen? (Create a Word document and write a minimum of 200 words; proofread for grammar and mechanics before copying and pasting to the blog!)
