  3. Mary Anne symbolizes the brutality of war. She resembles the men that have been effected by war and had the worst drawn out of her. Mary starts as an innocent, but soon realizes what she had gotten into, which shows how soon an impact Vietnam has on you. She becomes part of the land. She adapts to the new world she is in. Through her story of war, she becomes a weapon herself, ready to strike when threatened.

  4. fossie brought his girlfriend to the camp where he was stationed so he could spend time with her. Getting her there was not easy but eventually she was there at the camp. Once she was there she quickly adapted to the military life. She learned how to tend to the wounded and how to fire a weapon and eventually moved on to more advanced things like survival and ambushes and raids, this was all learned when she snuck out with the Greenies on their missions. After a while of this she started to spend more and more time with them and participating in their practices until she left the camp and went out on her own into the mountains on the west.

  6. I feel that the most important events in the story are:
-The connection between Mark Fossie and Mary Anne.
-How Mark gets Mary to Vietnam.
-Mary getting use to how things work in Vietnam.
    -How Mary strays from Mark.
-Mary left mark and "became part of the land.

  7. I think that Mary Anne symbolizes the "Bravery" of war. It shows how innocent she once was and how much she changed throughout the chapter. At first I don't think she is ready and she may be frightened by what she has seen happening to the guys. Mary Anne basically goes out on her own and realized everything, now she wants to be a part of war and she feels the need to be a part of everybody. Then she just goes out on her own and is basically ready to fight.

A: Mary Anne comes to Vietnam to be with Foosie. She then becomes and changes to a whole different person. The importance of this story is showing how war can change anybody. How they act and what they do during war.

  16. In this chapter, Mark Fossie brings his girlfriend over from the states. At first she is like a typical girl that wears pink and she also becomes a flirt. Next, she starts to tend to wounded soldiers and isn’t scared to get her hands dirty. She then stops personal hygiene and almost becomes one of them. Finally she starts to hang around the Greenies and even after Fossie becomes engaged to her, she goes off for days and finally “becomes the forest” and is never seen again.
