- Why do you think Tim has never told anyone about the story "On the Rainy River"? Provide examples from the story as support.
- Explain at least three reasons why Tim does not want to go to war.
- Summarize the events in the chapter "On the Rainy River."
Reasons Tim did not want to go to war:
ReplyDelete1. He did not believe in the War.
2. He felt that since he didn't believe in the war he shouldn't have to participate in it.
3. He had alot going for him in his schooling and going to war would disturb that.
Great display, love the way you set up your answer.
DeleteGood Job and its short too
Delete:Thumbs Up!
Good Job i agree completely!
DeleteBecause he is embarrassed about his feelings towards going to the war and didn’t want anyone to see how he really felt. He didn’t want anyone to disown him, or look down on him. He doesn’t want to go to the war because he feels like he doesn’t belong. He’s not cut out for it and he thinks that supporters of the war should be the ones going. He blames them for starting the war and is holding them responsible for him being drafted, along with the government.
ReplyDeleteGood Job! Very detailed!
DeleteReasons time didn't want to go to war:
ReplyDeleteTim never imagined himself being in the war. He told himself that he was to good to be in the war. He also thought that he was to smart to be in the war. He had big plans to go to school and get a good education but he had no intensions on going to war.
Good Job! Very Detailed. you spelled "Tim" wrong
DeleteI dont like it cause in the title you said time instead of tim. but is a good post tho :)
DeleteThree reasons why Tim don’t want to go to war. The first reason is he don’t support because he don’t see the reason in war cause he thinks that its stupid. Another reason is because he think that only the people who do support the war, should be the ones who go out and fight. He thinks that the people that support the war should have their who family including kids and parents. Also, he don’t like the idea of war. He thinks that there is no real reason for the Vietnam war. There is no real reason. The are just sending troops because they can.
ReplyDeleteQuestion #2
ReplyDeleteTim did not want to go to war because he was scared to, and he was scared to witness all the horrible things of the war. He was going to miss his parents dearly. The situation he is in is very hard to choose, because you have a chance to help fight, but you are being a coward, and hiding so you won’t have to go. If my county needs me, you’ll see me run out the door with a rocket launcher on my back.
Tim doesn’t want to go to war because he thinks it’s none of his business. He doesn’t understand the reason why there is a war in Vietnam. He says that the people who support it should be the ones to fight it. Tim is afraid of what will happen to him if he does go.
ReplyDeleteResponse to question 1.
ReplyDeleteI think that Tim has never told anyone about the story “On the Rainy River” because he was ashamed to even tell people that he was thinking bout running away from the war. I also think that he didn’t want to be embarrassed. He probably didn’t want to look like a coward in front of his family and loved ones. Even to this day this story makes him squirm and he had a terrible time remembering it because of the memories. Finally, I think that he didn’t tell others about it because he was seeking approval from his family, he didn’t want them to think badly of him.

I agree completely
DeleteGood job! I absolutely agree with your post.
Deletei think that you are correct. I think u are right because that would be very hard for someone to come out and say they almost ran away.
DeleteI agree with your post! It's very detailed!
Deleteabout*, haha. Oonst like, yaa. but anyway it's good.

ReplyDeleteYou need more sentences explaining other reasons why he was embarrassed to tell it.
DeleteI think that Tim O'Brien did not want to join the war because he was afraid. A second reason I think he doesn't want to go into war is because he thinks people that support the war should be the one's to join it. A third reason he didn't want to go into war was leaving his family behind. No one knew his feelings about war and some people may have mistaken and thought he actually wanted to do it. He was also really embarrassed about it and so he didn't want to show his feelings about war.
ReplyDeletegood job i agree
Deletegood job, all of your reasons are detailed greatly.
DeleteI liked it, it's very detail and I totally agree.
DeleteTim didn’t want to go to war because he was scared to go to war and then get killed and not be able to come back to his family and friends. He was just lazy and wanted to just stay at home. Also because he was rapped up in Martha and didn’t know what else to do besides think about her.
ReplyDeleteGood Reasons! Very detailed.
DeleteYou are a bit confused. Tim was not wrapped up in thoughts of Martha. Lieutenant Cross was in love with Martha, not Tim.
DeleteI think the reason that Tim never told anyone about the Rainy River is because he might have been ashamed that he cried that day because he couldn’t decide what to do. He might see things a lot differently now and disagree with how he thought then and feels badly about how he thought. Maybe he is afraid to tell people how scared he was to go to war and how he ran from his problems instead of standing up to them. He explained in the novel a few chapters before that the men that went to fight were afraid and ashamed to be admitting how much they feared the war so maybe that is why he never told anyone.
ReplyDeleteGood Job! Because you were saying about how the book was saying how Tim was ashamed about going to war.
DeleteWhat we read so far was what things the soliders carried. A lieutenant back-story and his girlfriend Martha. And what tragedy events events that occurred while they were in the war.
ReplyDeletegood job
DeleteKeion, your response does not answer any of the three questions assigned.
DeletePhilip, you need to be more detailed in your response. What was so good about Keion's post?
Tim didn’t tell anyone about what happened to him before he went to the war in Vietnam because he was ashamed about how he ran away from his life and how he thought about never coming back. He didn’t want to tell anybody that he didn’t support the idea of that war. Then he was embarrassed about thinking how scared he was about the idea of fighting in the war and how afraid he was about going back and tell to his friends and family what happened to him so they could judge him.
ReplyDeleteHe likes his life he doesn’t want to change it for a war. He doesn’t want to go to war because he doesn’t support it. He is not the fighting kind. He also thinks that the supporters of the war should go fight in the war.
ReplyDeletebad job very bad and bad spelling
Deleteyour post was very true and very accurate
DeleteDalton, your reply is not acceptable. First of all, you should never call someone's post "bad." Secondly, your response has no capitalization nor is it even a complete sentence. Take care of your own errors before you criticize others.
Delete2. He didn’t wanted to go to the war because he thought that the people that wanted to go should go. He also thought that the people and their families should be the ones that should go to the war. Another reason that he didn’t want to go is that he wanted to live his life and be there for his family.
ReplyDeleteGood post, i agree with you one hundred percent
DeleteCD, why do you agree? With what part of the post do you agree? Be more clear and specific.

ReplyDeleteResponse #1:
ReplyDeleteI think Tim didn’t tell anyone this story because he was embarrassed to. He was afraid of what people wound think of him. He didn’t want people to think he was afraid.
3. Chapter “On The Rainy River” is about how went to his friends. To decides what to do about being drafted to the war. Should he go to the war? Or just go to Canada and not go to war. By the end of the chapter he decides to go to war because he didn’t want to be embarrassed of not going.
ReplyDeletevery good job :3 your summary was accurate and detailed.
DeleteTim did not want to go to war because he didn’t support it. Another reason he didn’t want to go to war is because he didn’t want to die. He kept saying that he had a future and college plans. He didn’t want to go because he said the people that supported the war should go. "Chris Thorla"
ReplyDeleteGood job you had good grammer and your post is true
ReplyDeleteTim never told anyone about the story “On The Rainy River” because I think he would be embarrassed. He did not want people to think of him as a coward. He didn’t want to go to the war because he didn’t agree with it. He believed that if you supported the war then you and your wife and kids should fight it.
ReplyDeleteClearly stated and well-written response.
DeleteHe didn’t really want to go to war .in the frist and he felt like going to war and he hqad a lot going for him and school and stuff like that . and he did not have a lot of fellings for war and stuff like that too and he blames the government for the war and stuff
ReplyDeletePlease proofread for errors before submitting. Capitalize the first letter of a sentence. Space after the period, not before. Rather than "stuff," use more specific vocabulary.
DeleteI think he didn’t tell anyone because it would bring shame to his family, friends, and community. And while they were on the boat for him to make his decision he cried, a lot. He saw how his life would be if he went to Canada or if he went to war. He didn’t want to go to war because he didn’t know why we went to war.
ReplyDelete2. One reason he does not want to go to war is because he is scared of war. Then he is afraid he will die and not get to go home. After he is there, he will get in battle and not try to get killed. He tried to get out of the war he fought against them.
ReplyDeleteits good because you made it easy to under stand why he did not want to go to war.
DeleteI am answering question number 2. He didn’t support the war. He didn’t understand why we was in the war. He thought that the people that supported it should go not the ones who didn’t.
ReplyDeleteTim didn’t tell the story because he was ashamed about thinking of leaving and not going to war. Other than that he cried in the boat when he was fishing. He also was ashamed of himself for being a coward and ditching out. He left his job and quit to which was stupid.
ReplyDelete1.Why do you think Tim has never told anyone about the story "On the Rainy River"? Tim was scared about going to war. He did want anyone to know that he was scared about so he ran away and acted like he was going. He never told anyone because he didn’t want anyone to know that he was scared and to know that he was a wimp and to make fun of him. And to also know to know that the old man had helped him make it if he was going to run.
ReplyDeleteTim does not want to go to war because he thought he was to good to go to war.Than he also did not want to because he did not want to die.And he just wanted to stay home and stay with his family. He did not like the thought of him going to war and he did not support the war and he hated the thought of war.
ReplyDeleteI think that Tim has never told anyone about the story “On the Rainy River” because he was ashamed to even tell people that he was thinking bout running away from the war. Also i think that he didn’t want to be embarrassed. He probably didn’t want to look like a coward in front of his family and the one's he loved. Even to this day this story makes him squirm and he had a terrible time remembering it because of the memories. Finally, I think that he didn’t tell others about it because he was seeking approval from his family, he didn’t want them to think badly of him.
ReplyDeleteGood response Liz. I liked the way you described it about
ReplyDeletethe rainy river and how they might be ashamed.
